Quantum Break – a Kinetic Novel
Here’s something completely different!
For the Writing and New Media unit of my Masters in Writing, I’ve written a Kinetic Novel. It inhabits the same world as my novella, “Quantum Chance” which will be available here in the near future.
I’ve had a fantastic time coding this story in Ren’Py software. It’s really easy to learn the basics, and then quite hard to get the hang of the rest of it, but by then you’re hooked!
Please download and try it out.. and I’d love to hear your comments, if you do.
Windows version here: http://1-4all.net/cheryl/Quantum-1.0-win.zip (48Mb)
Mac version here: http://1-4all.net/cheryl/Quantum-1.0-mac.zip (46Mb)
Linux version here: http://1-4all.net/cheryl/Quantum-1.0-linux.tar.bz2 (53 Mb)
In response to one of the comments below – and because I’m a BIG believer in sharing resources – I’ve uploaded the source code (http://1-4all.net/cheryl/Quantum.zip) that made the files above. It was in the “Quantum” folder in my Ren’Py projects folder. If you’ve got any questions about it, please leave them below and I’ll get to them as quickly as I can…
In Windows, unzip the archive into it’s own folder and double-click the file called Quantum(.exe)
I hope you enjoy & thanks, guys!
If you do your own Renpy novel — or similar — please let me know in the comments below.

Unfortunately no Linux built… 🙁

Hi jean marc,
You;re right, of course! There is a Linux build but I didn;t upload it because of my internet connection (I’m in the country in Australia – wireless only and slow and expensive…) But, I’m uploading it right now – it should take about a half hour. Thanks for looking!

Hi jean marc,
All done! The Linux build is up and available. I haven’t had anyone who could test the Linux version, so please let me know if it glitches! Thank you,
Cheryl

Great Novel! Very Immersive and really adds to the mystery. Surprising that only 1 guy made it. The music and animations were on point. The art doesn’t really matter but it was well designed and really effective! Well done.
I was also wondering if I could have the source code to this project. I’m trying to learn my way through ren’py and wanted to take a look at the existing source code of a project. I promise not to do anything with it! I just want to get a feel of how everything is constructed in a complete ren’py project.

Hi, I’m glad you liked it enough to ask for the source code! Give me a couple of days to get it uploaded and I’ll email to let you know it’s here. I hadn’t touched Ren’Py until the start of October – so it’s obviously not hard to learn.
A little thing – but it was one
girl
that made it!
